Rocafort Street (Besalú, Catalonia)
I has been some time since my last visit to Besalú, on my previous visits the weather didn’t help me to catch the photo that I had in mind regarding the amazing Romanesque bridge that is standing on the village entrance. This weekend has not been an exception, and I will have to wait till the next opportunity to take that photo.
However, I didn’t waste my time. I woke up very early, and I arrived shortly after the sunrise. The village was quiet, without the many tourists that usually wander around the streets I had a unique opportunity to rediscover this medieval town. I fact, I totally recommend the experience!
Besalú is mostly famous for the Romanesque bridge and the vestiges of its Jewish past. It was one of the most important towns in Catalonia and It is easy to understand while walking around it. In this photo, you can see one of its narrow streets, with a nice stone floor, and these intriguing old doors; how old are those really are?
If you take a close look, you would also see two chairs hanging on the wall. This artwork and some others distributed around the city were done during an exchange week between some young artist from Girona and Italy. In particular, these two chairs are from Ester Baulida and it symbolize the difficulties that humanity has in accomplishing its aims and resolving the problems it has to confront.
